Chicago Theatre Community Open
The CTC OPEN was started in 2006 as a theatre community social golfing event and has grown into a yearly art community golf tournament. We hope to build this site not only to promote the CTC OPEN but as a Chicago artist golf community destination (ie. look for golf partners, advice, etc.)
The tournament is your classic four person golf scramble. Each team member tees off, the team decides on the best ball position and plays from that location, repeat until the team is in the cup. Each team will represent an organization (selected by the team – this can be a theatre, a charity, a company, a bar, a club, whatever), and will be competing for the CTC Open Trophy - this is nothing short of the green jacket of the Chicago Theatre Community. CTC OPEN provides CASH awards to the top placing teams, as well as prizes for the winners of the:
- Longest Drive Contests
- Closest to the Pin Contests
- Worst Drive Contest
At past events registration included: Golf, Cart, Lunch, Awards Banquet (including dinner buffet), Open t-shirt and other swag.
FAQ
Q. Who can play in the CTCOpen?
A. Actors, technicians, directors, etc…we play a scramble format so regardless of your skill level you can play in the event. We have players from beginners to weekly golfers…so don’t be afraid to sign up.
Q. I can’t play i don’t have clubs…
A. Most of the courses have clubs you can rent, and in the past we have had players bring in extra clubs for participants without a set of their own.
Q. You mentioned a Scramble…what is that?
A. In a scramble, each player tees off on each hole. The best of the tee shots is selected and all players play their second shots from that spot. The best of the second shots is determined, then all play their third shots from that spot, and so on until the ball is in the hole. We play four person scrambles.
Q. How expensive is it to participate?
A. The price is determined by the course and amount in sponsorships the event can bring in. The goal is to make it as cheap as possible, for example last year the price for the day was $25.00 for a round of golf and food.
Q. What if I don’t play golf?
A. The point of the CTC Open is to have fun with your peers. You don’t need to know how to play golf to play in a scramble, that’s the beauty of the formatt. If you decide to play it might help to join your friends in a trip to the Driving Range just so you know the basics.
Q. Do you need help?
A. Of course. Please see the “What can I do to help” discussion. We’re looking for more fans of this page, and also sponsorship and free SWAG for the event participants too.
Q. I want to meet more theatre people who Golf. How can I do that?
A. That’s part of the point of this page. Post on the wall that you’re looking for people to play this weekend, and see who raises their hand. We are also working on a system to help golfers in this area. Stay in touch and look out for news from the CTC Open!
